“My dream with the project was to find myself, my passions and my dreams. In doing this, I found inspiration to bring my dream to life and share this with other women.”

Aly Gonzalez

When Australia went into lockdown in 2020, most of us reached for the nearest chocolate block (or a slightly stronger equivalent). But Aly Gonzalez did the opposite. She looked inward, and decided to figure out how to get more from her life.

Not that her life wasn’t already full. With an education in advertising, a career as a graphic designer and a family with a beautiful girl, Aly was looking for something more. “I always loved illustration and wanted to be an artist,” Aly says. “But you know, your parents encourage a path with more opportunities.”

“I had always followed other people’s expectations,” Aly says. “And so in October last year, I took on a 100 day challenge all about getting to know myself and how to live an authentic life.”

The result – which emerged before the 100 days had even been completed – is Authentically Venus. A stationery, candle and design brand that is designed to inspire women to be their authentic selves, and become who they choose to be. “My dream with the project was to find myself, my passions and my dreams,” says Ally. “In doing this, I found inspiration to bring my dream to life and share this with other women.” This comes in the form of beautifully designed candles – which Aly uses every time she works – and tools for manifestation, rituals and planning.

With Aly’s lived experience as testament to the work she’s creating, it looks like Authentically Venus will do just that.
